Uniswap’s hook system in V4 gives it unparalleled control over the order flow—arguably a form of self-preferencing if the protocol prioritizes its own liquidity pools. Similarly, L2 sequencers like Arbitrum and Optimism control transaction ordering and can extract maximal extractable value (MEV) while preventing competitors from offering alternative inclusion.
