The description promises 'enhanced security against quantum threats' and 'broader blockchain adoption.' The blockchain, however, records no evidence of a product. No GitHub repository. No audit report. No wallet addresses holding test funds. The narrative is present; the data is absent. I do not predict the future; I audit the present. In this audit, the present is a vacuum. A hardware wallet is a physical device that signs transactions offline. Its security model rests on the integrity of its firmware, the randomness of its key generation, and the strength of its cryptographic algorithms. Traditional wallets like Ledger and Trezor use ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm), which is vulnerable to a sufficiently large quantum computer. Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) replaces ECDSA with lattice-based algorithms like CRYSTALS-Dilithium or Falcon, standardized by NIST in 2024. PQ1 claims to embed these algorithms into a hardware form factor. The core of the matter is not the technology—it is the lack of verifiable provenance. Let us examine what we can trace on-chain. Using the Ethereum mainnet, I searched for any contract or address associated with the string 'PQ1' or any mention of post-quantum hardware wallet transactions. Result: zero. A search of the Bitcoin blockchain for UTXOs created by a PQC signing scheme: none. The data set is empty. In my 2017 ICO audit, I learned that a project’s whitepaper is noise; the code is signal. Here, there is no code. The absence of any deployable artifact on any testnet—Sepolia, Holesky, or even a private chain—is a red flag. Hardware wallets require firmware, which requires source code for auditing. Without a repository, there is no way to verify that the product is not an off-the-shelf Chinese wallet with a sticker. Contrarian thinkers might argue that PQ1 is in a concept-validation phase, and demanding code is premature. They point to the success of projects like Trezor, which started as a small open-source initiative. The correlation, however, does not equal causation. Trezor’s early code was on GitHub from day one. The firmware was auditable by the community. The team (SatoshiLabs) had a public history with Bitcoin development. PQ1 offers none of that. The project's anonymity amplifies the risk. Hardware security is about trust in the manufacturer’s supply chain. Who fabricates the chip? Where is the facility? Is there a secure element with certified random number generation? Without answers, the wallet is a black box. The takeaway is not to dismiss post-quantum security—it is essential. But the path from a conference talk to a delivered product is littered with failures. My 2022 analysis of exchange proof-of-reserves taught me that promises without on-chain verification are liabilities. Patience reveals the pattern that haste obscures. The signal for the coming week is not to buy PQ1 (you cannot, there is no token) but to monitor two metrics: first, the release of a public GitHub repo with the wallet’s source code; second, a security audit by a firm like Kudelski or Trail of Bits. Until then, this discussion is a placeholder—not a revolution.
