To put that in perspective, that’s the combined market cap of the top five DePIN compute projects at their peak. The immediate trigger? Rumors of a major hyperscaler dialing back its AI server orders. But the real story lies in the order flow data.

The second wave will be about efficiency and distribution. Decentralized networks that can offer access to idle GPUs at fraction of the cost will feast on the scraps of the hyperscaler feast. The bulls are still looking at the wrong metrics. They're measuring top-line AI revenue growth, not profit margins per unit of compute. The margin compression in centralized hardware is a slow-moving knife — but it's moving.

But if the asset itself (the GPU server) loses value due to oversupply, the tokenized version loses its anchor.
